About The Book
Once upon a time at Happy Acres Ranch, where golden rays danced across green
pastures and flowers bloomed like confetti in the morning light, lived two goats
whose hearts beat louder than any barnyard bell—Susie, white as freshly fallen
snow, and Sammy, brown as warm earth after rain. They were never alone, for the
ranch hummed with life: Max the old horse who told stories with his sighs, Joe
the pig who snorted melodies, Frankie the donkey who brayed in rhythm, three
curious rabbits who hopped to secrets, and two waddling ducks who quacked the
weather’s mood. One bright morning, before the sun had fully stretched its arms
across the fields, a thunderous crash split the air like a fallen tree. A pickup truck
had burst through the fence near the highway, sending cows thundering out in
panic. Their moos turned into cries as they darted past startled chickens and
trembling hens, chasing danger toward the roaring road. Susie and Sammy locked
eyes without a word. “We have to help!” whispered Susie, her voice steady as a
bell tolling courage. Sammy nodded, and together they dashed forward—faster
than wind through tall grass, braver than any shadow dared to be. They found
the herd trembling near the edge of asphalt, hooves skidding like loose stones.
“This way! Follow us!” Sammy called, his voice strong enough to carry over the
honking cars. Susie stayed close behind, nudging those who lagged, her eyes never
leaving a single cow. A car hurtled closer, horn screaming like a startled owl.
Susie’s heart pounded, but she did not stop. “Quickly now,” she urged, and with
one last leap of trust, the cows followed—not just because they were told, but
because they believed. At last, beyond the last fence, under the wide open sky,
the herd slowed. Their breaths came slow again. The sun smiled down as April
Baker ran toward them, her ponytail flying like a banner of pride. She knelt beside
them, arms wide, and held them tight. “You two are heroes,” she whispered, her
voice thick with wonder. From that day on, the whole ranch sang their names—
not just for what they did, but for how they did it: together, fearless, and full of
love. And every evening, when the fireflies blinked awake, the animals would
gather, watching the stars and knowing that even the smallest hearts can lead the
biggest rescue.
